The City of Playford hosted its annual Anzac Day Dawn Service at the Cross of Remembrance, Smithfield, this morning.
Several hundred people attended the Anderson Walk service, which is growing in popularity every year.
The service was conducted by Pastor Bryan Sellars, with City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty reading The Ode.
Poetry readings during the occasion were contributed by Paul Rosenzweig.
Let the moon with soft, gentle light me descry,
Let the dawn send forth its fleeting, brilliant light,
In murmurs grave allow the wind to sigh,
And should a bird descend on my cross and alight,
Let the bird intone a song of peace o'er my site.
The words were appropriate, given the liveliness of the parrots flying around the service throughout the morning.
Wreaths were placed by a variety of community members, remembering the service of the many Australians who have served in the Australian Defence Forces in the past and present.
The Dawn Service followed an overnight vigil, during which young people from the Australian Navy Cadets, St John Cadets and Ridley District Scout Group guard the memorial.
